v. (动词)

• continue的基本意思是“继续”,指动作或状态的继续或持续不中断。可表示一件事一直在做,中间没有停歇; 也可以表示中间有一个中断,又接着做下去。
• continue可用作不及物动词,也可用作及物动词。用作及物动词时可接名词、动名词、动词不定式或that从句作宾语,也可以接as短语充当补足语的复合宾语。continue还可引出直接引语。
• continue还可用作系动词,接(to be+) adj. 或as+ n. 作表语, to be常可以省略。
• still continue是个很多余的用法，应该避免，去掉still，用continue就可以了；
• continue一般后面常接不定式，比较普遍，而很少用现在分词。不过在作及物动词时，把现在分词看做动名词也是可以的。The baby continued to cry all night. 这个婴儿一晚上都在哭。
• continue后面接不定式或者现在分词，都解释为“不停地……”而不是“停止后继续……”的意思。The baby continued to cry (或crying) all night. 句子不可改为The baby continued to cry (或 crying) at eleven o'clock。
• continue解释为“(在停止后）继续……”的时候，后接的宾语常有story， article， narrative，discourse，journey等。The author will continue the story in another volume. 这个作加会在另一册中继续这个故事。
• continue作不及物动词时，后常接表语。Her temper continued uncertain. 她的脾气持续不稳定。
